[Greater Nagoya Initiative][1](GNI) is one of the Japan's local revitalization projects inaugurated by Chubu bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry. The purpose of GNI is to promote the industry and the economy in Greater Nagoya area so as to attract companies, technology, people, and information to foreign companies to invest in the area. The initiative is operated by Greater Nagoya Initiative Center(GNIC). The region's municipalities, business communities, academia, research institutes have joined in the GNI and about 400 campanies and organizations belong to the GNI Partners Club. Currently the GNI is supported and co-hosted by three prefectures(Aichi, Gifu, Mie), 24 municipalities, and 12 business organizations as well as the Japan External Trade Organization(JETRO), and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry(METI).
In this area within 80-100km radius of Nagoya, the clusters of the Chukyo Industrial Area are where the Japanese motor, aerospace, electronics, and machine tool industry are highly concentrated.
